Hickory Woods Goes to Washington!
On February 29th, 2000, Buffalo Common Council President James Pitts and Homeowner Association President Rick Ammerman address congressional staff on the Hickory Woods situation and Brownfield Environmental issues. As guests of the Sierra Club they helped lobby against bad brownfield legislation that is being introduced to congress by the National Association of Home Builders. If this legislation were to become law it would be much easier for situations like that in the Hickory Woods development to happen again. This proposed bill would allow developers to walk away from contaminated developments and leave the financial burdens of clean-up on the taxpayer. Hopefully Mr. Pitts' and Mr. Ammerman's efforts in Washington will assist in defeating bad legislation. The added benefit for Hickory Woods is that our story has now been heard at a national level. A Hickory Woods Fact Sheet has been delivered to every Senator and Congressman nation wide!
