Blue's Story

Flower bar

Blue was found wandering around the woods where my
parents had just purchased property.  It was apparent that
he was abused.  This poor boy was half starved.  He was
afraid whenever anyone lifted their arms into the air.  He
was also afraid of guns.  Thanks to my brother, Blue
found a loving home at my parents home.

Blue was a Blue Tick Coonhound.  His best friend was my
Doberman Pinscher, Diogenes.  Dodgie was a little rough
with Blue sometimes.  Blue would get tired of the rough
housing and go hide under the deck on the back of the
house.  Dodgie couldnt fit under there!  These two would
run around playing and having a good time for hours at a
time.

Whenever I would visit, Blue would happily greet me with
his barking and wagging tail!  He finally did overcome
his fear of fast movements and learned to trust again.  He
was a real trooper and deserved the best that life could
give him.

Through the years, Blue had a wonderful life with his
new family. Finally, the day came when his friend,
Dodgie died.  It broke all of our hearts but seemed to take
its toll on Blue.

We never realized the bond that these two had.  After
Dodgie's death, Blue would sit on his grave for hours.  He
would sit with me and put his head on my shoulders as if
trying to comfort me.  If it weren't for Blue's comfort, I
don't know how I could have made it through.  Blue was
the perfect example of "Man's Best Friend".

Blue never seemed to be the same after his buddy died.  He
moped around.  He seemed so forlorn.  Little did we know,
that he too, would be going to Rainbow Bridge.

Blue developed kidney failure.  He would not eat or drink.
We tried everything but in the end, we made that dreadful
decision to let him go.  It was apparent to us that he was
suffering.

Blue joined Dodgie in Rainbow Bridge on
January 11, 1999.  To this day, I honestly believe that he
died from a broken heart.

I cannot express how it felt to watch this wonderful boy
mourn the loss of his best friend.  Blue touched my life.
He gave me friendship and love when I thought I had lost
the world.  He never wanted anything in return.

Blue is sadly missed by everyone!  His memory will live on
in our hearts and minds.  What an honor it is to have
been given the chance to know him.
