  • MOORE. Seeking info about William MOORE, b 15 Oct 1839 in Ballyclose, Newtownlimavady (now Limavady) Co. Londonderry, Ireland. He was the son of William MOORE (b 1 Dec 1807; d 6 Nov 1879) and Margaret _____ (b 1811; d 14 Mar 1877), and the older brother of Thomas MOORE (b 1 Nov 1841; d 4 Dec 1912) and Matthew MOORE (b 2 Mar 1846; d 23 Nov 1866). Thomas MOORE was my paternal great-grandfather. The family "legend" is that William MOORE Jr. emigrated to Australia and did not return. My late father and an elderly aunt remembered an Australian calling at one of my Grandfather's shops in Limavady claiming a connection to my Grandfather but for some unknown reason they did not meet and contact was not established. This person may have been an Australian soldier and he may have called either in the late 1940's or during the late 1960's/early 1970's. If this person was correct in his claim to a connection to my Grandfather I would assume that he was a descendant of William MOORE. I have checked through records of births, marriages and deaths for most of the Australian States, shipping lists and even convict transportation lists, but cannot tie down my William MOORE. As William was born in 1839 I have assumed that he would have been at least 20 years of age before he emigrated so his departure to Australia would have been in or after 1859. If you can help, please contact John Moore: email djlm.familyhistory@btinternet.com or write to John Moore, 16 Carneybaun Road, Portrush, Co. Antrim, BT56 8JB, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom.
