How do I upload my webpage files?

Many HTML editor programs have a built in feature to 'Publish' files when you're ready to make them go live - others need a separate FTP program. We'll be using generic terms for this process.

First, regardless of which program you'll be using to UPLOAD your files, you have to tell it where it's going to send the files, how to send them and with what username and password.

The 'WHERE' will usually be a setting that says "Server name", "Remote Computer" or some combination of those words. The setting for this option is buffnet7.buffnet.net - Notice it's all lowercase letters.

You may also see a listing for "Start Directory" - that should be left blank.

Next is 'HOW' to send the files: Some programs will ask if you want to transfer files in ASCII Mode, BINARY Mode, or Automatic Selection. Whenever possible, use AUTOMATIC.

For the username / password - you may also see a listing for "Anonymous Login"; you'll be using your BuffNET Username (the beginning part of your BuffNET Email address) and the associated password. If you are unsure what these are, please contact our Customer Service Office between 8am and 5pm M-F for assistance.

Once you're logged into your directory space, you'll need to change directories into the public_html directory. All of your files will go in there.

If you have a problem with these directions, please contact our technical support department and we'll assist you further.
