In this example webpage the builder is STILL well under 1 MB with a good sized personal website. If additional information was added in, such as video and sound, the overall used size begins to climb quickly. In the case of the scanned pictures, they should be scanned at 72 dpi, not 120 as in this sample. With a smaller dpi number, the files sizes come down even further, leaving you moor room to work with.
