An error message occurs when I attempt to connect stating "Dial-Up Networking was unable to negotiate
a compatible set of network protocols..."
Solution 3:
To rebuild your networking drivers, please try the following:
Close down any windows or programs running on the computer (Netscape, Internet Explorer, Mail, disconnect from BuffNET
if you are dialed in). Find your MS-Windows CD-ROM in case your computer needs it for later.
Click on <START> - <SETTINGS> - <CONTROL
PANEL> ...and double-click <NETWORK>
In the list of installed components, you should see a listing either for: "TCP/IP" or "
TCP/IP -> Dial-Up Adapter". Click on that, then click the <PROPERTIES> button.
[MS-Windows 98 will bring up a warning - click <OK>
through that.]
Now, click on each tab and set the following:
IP
ADDRESS |
Set this for "Obtain an IP address automatically" |
WINS
CONFIGURATION |
Set this for "Disable WINS Resolution" |
| GATEWAY |
There should be no Gateways assigned (No numbers) |
DNS
CONFIGURATION |
Set this for "Enable DNS" |
| The "Host" box should be: buffnet |
| The "Domain" box should be: buffnet.net |
| The "DNS Server Search Order" should have two of the following number sets:
205.246.19.12 205.246.19.28
205.246.19.37 205.246.19.55
If you already have two sets of numbers, erase one, and replace it with one other from this list. |
| BINDINGS |
"Client for Microsoft Networks" should be showing up, and should be checked |
5. Click <OK> - then <OK> again.
MS Windows will now begin rebuilding the TCP/IP drivers.
If the computer asks for your Window CD-Rom, put it in and click <OK>.
The line "Copy files from..." should say:
Windows 95 users - "X:\WIN95" (where "X" is your CD-ROM Drive Letter)
Windows 98 users - "X:\WIN98" (where "X" is your CD-ROM Drive Letter)
If not, click in the field and change it.
If the computer says there is a date conflict, answer, <YES>.
When the computer says "You must restart your computer...",
put your MS-Windows CD-ROM safely away in it's case and answer <YES>.
If these step have not solved your connection problem, please call our
Tech Support Office Monday thru Friday, from 8:30 AM to
