BuffNET Setup Instructions for:
MS-Windows 2000


  1. Click the <Start> button, click <Settings>, and choose <Control Panel>.

  2. Double-click the <Network and Dial-up Connections> icon.

  3. Double-click the <Make New Connection> icon, then click <Next>

  4. Select <Dial-up to the Internet>, then click <Next>

  5. Select <I want to set up my Internet connection manually>, or <I want to connect through a local area network (LAN)>, then click <Next>

  6. Select <I connect through a phone line and a modem>, then click <Next>

  7. In the Area Code field, type 716

  8. In the Telephone number field, type your local access number from the following list:

    Below is BuffNET's Telephone number matrix - last revised March 2002. The local access dialup number will be dependent on your location and your local dialing area.

    Please consult your telephone book or your local telephone access provider to see which number is local for you. BuffNET will not be responsible for any long distance charges that may be incurred if you choose a non-local number.

  9. Click the <Advanced> button.

  10. Click on the <Addresses> tab

  11. Click the <Always use the following> radio button in the DNS server address area, and add the following addresses:
    Primary DNS server: 205.246.19.12
    Alternate DNS server : 205.246.19.55

  12. Click the <OK> button. Click the <Next> button

  13. In the <User name> field, type your BuffNET username

  14. In the <Password> field, type your BuffNET password, then click <Next>

  15. In the <Connection Name> field, type BuffNET, then click <Next>

  16. Where it says, <Do you want to set up an Internet mail account now>, click <Yes>, then click <Next>

  17. In the <Display Name> field, type your name, then click <Next>

  18. In the <E-mail address> field, type your email address, then click <Next>

  19. Where it says, <My incoming mail server is a ____ server>, click the drop-down list and choose POP3

  20. In the <Incoming mail server> field, type mail.buffnet.net

  21. In the <Outgoing mail server> field, type smtp.buffnet.net, then click <Next>

  22. In the <Account name> field, type your BuffNET username (do not include @buffnet.net)

  23. In the <Password> field, type your BuffNET password. You can also check the box next to <Remember password> if you would like to have your password saved, then click <Next>

  24. Check the box next to <Connect to the Internet immediately> if you would like to test the connection now.

  25. Click <Finish>
